I am a seamstress and have sewn several wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses. The extra step I do is sew "copy" of the dress using a lining type of material. The bride is able to put on the prototype of her gown/dress and decide if she wants and changes before I start on her actual dress. Works great for both of us because she gets to see how the style looks on here and I see if there are any changes in size I have to do. This method ensures a happy bride.

I just want to thank you for so many wonderful resources. The links in your article are so helpful. I have been sifting through columns all morning and this is my final stop, thankfully, because all of the information I need is right here. Thanks again! You've made my day.

Jasmine - You should take pictures or sketches to the seamstress, describing what you'd like done, and have them put together a pattern for you. You ought to be able to see the sketches long before they start sewing the gown so you can approve it or make any necessary changes. If you don't have pictures or sketches of the dresses you want to use, you can choose similar ones and make revisions yourself to show how you would like the finished gown to look. Best wishes!

I have a dress I need to have a pattern made for. It's a wedding gown I have the seamstress. I don't have a drawing of the dress. I have 3 dress and I would like to take the top from one, the back and the bottom from another.

Can you help?

I'm sorry, Sheree, we are not a retail outlet or dress design firm. I'd suggest you find a local seamstress who is experienced with wedding and formal gowns to take a look at your ideas.
