My finance and I are planning a September 19th, 2009 wedding and need help. We are looking for sponsors for our wedding in MD. We have to pay for the wedding and would help to market a vendor that is willing to help us!

Rhonda - You still have time to arrange a lovely celebration without sponsors, but you may need to scale back on what you'd like so you can manage it. If you do want to go the sponsorship route, you'll need to contact local businesses and see what you might be able to arrange with each of them. For example, contact a caterer and see if, in exchange for advertising and such, they'd give you a better rate.

Monique - You have plenty of time to save up for a nice wedding, and there are many ways you can trim costs so you can pay for it yourself. If you still want to investigate sponsors, however, you'd just need to approach local businesses and ask about their willingness to do so in exchange for advertising or other publicity. Best wishes!

I am recently engaged and my fiance and I have a 9 month old daughter and I am currently 4 months pregnant. Financially we can not afford a big wedding, but he has made such effort to purchase me a ring and propose.

We would like to have a 2009 spring or summer wedding but we are worried about how we will be able to afford it. Do you think that we will be able to get local sponsors for our ceremony and reception?

Danielle - You should contact local vendors (florists, bridal shops, caterers, etc.) individually and ask if they ever sponsor weddings in exchange for advertising space and such. At this short notice, however, you may have difficulty securing sponsors for very many aspects of your wedding. Best of luck!

Stacy - If you do feel you need sponsors (there are many ways you can save money so you can avoid this extreme), you should contact local wedding suppliers and businesses about sponsorship opportunities. They may not fully sponsor your wedding, but they may be willing to trade some advertising space for discounts.

The best advice may be to trim expenses and find other ways to save money so you do not have to resort to sponsors -- with good budgeting, you can have a lovely wedding for less than $5,000. If you do want to go the sponsored route, speak with local businesses about potential funding in exchange for advertisements and endorsements.

To arrange sponsors, most couples will approach vendors with the idea and ask for discounts if the vendors' logos and slogans are used as well -- for example on programs, invitations, napkins, etc. Many vendors may be reluctant to do this, and the couple should be very flexible about whom they approach to sponsor the event. Another option is to have a local radio station or something act as the sponsor, but that often means the couple must relinquish control of all the major decisions -- who provides flowers, colors, dress style, etc. -- to the sponsoring organization, so again, flexibility is the key.

If you are interested in sponsors because you simply can't afford the wedding of your dreams, you may want to consider ways to save money on wedding expenses or scaling down your celebration so you don't need to resort to sponsors to afford the details. I would love to have a sponsored wedding it is probably the only way I will have the wedding I want as we are already a family of 5 to start there are 3 children to think about when it comes to expenses. IE $175.00 so one can play Volleyball or invitations.
