Linda - If the ground under the runner is very uneven, you can investigate putting long boards underneath it, so long as they're wide enough that the members of the wedding party won't stumble over the edges. You'll want to check with your ceremony site, however; they may not allow something over the grass that could hurt the turf. I'd recommend that your bridal party practice walking over the grass in their shoes -- if they walk on the balls of their feet without putting as much pressure on their heels, they shouldn't have much of a problem. Best wishes!

Estere - Depending on when you will have your reception, you may not need extra lighting at all. Afternoon weddings will already be well lit, so no extra lighting is necessary. If the reception will be in the evening, you'll want to investigate electric lanterns to hang from the tent (not real flames, you don't want to risk fire!), or see what restrictions the campground has on what you can and cannot use. Best wishes!

Great ideas...question-what to do about a runner so bridal party heels won't be trapped in the grass? Help?

I am having our reception at camping grounds but it has a beautiful view of the mountains with acres of green grass. I am renting a tent but what would be a cheaper way for the lighting in the tent?

Tifanie - You can put straw or hay over the dirt, or just be sure it is well packed down and free of debris before the festivities begin. Choose a gown that will bustle or has no train so it won't drag on the dirt, and pick bridesmaid dresses that are ankle length or shorter for the same reason. Best wishes!

I am having my wedding at a ranch in my home town it will all be outdoors. We want to have dancing but the entire area is dirt. I don't want the added expense of a dance floor, are there any other options for making a fun dance area?

Heather -- It really depends on how much space is available, and the type of ceremony you are planning. If the service will be short (10-15 minutes), you can forego chairs altogether -- just have a row of chairs for your parents and grandparents as well as relatives or friends who may need the seating, and have everyone else stand.

If you do want chairs, you can arrange a room in the house with hors d'oeuvres and after the ceremony, invite everyone in for a quick drink or snack while a few designated helpers remove the chairs and rearrange them for the reception while you greet your guests inside. Then everyone can move back into the transformed yard.

Best of luck!

I am planning on having my wedding at the end of June towards the evening, and the reception to follow at a friend's back yard. But they will both be in the same place, so how do we get the guests from the ceremony to the reception and get the chairs out of the way? Without it being too awkward?
