What a great idea, Susan! Hopefully it would be possible to find a pumpkin large enough to hold the cards comfortably, or else perhaps several pumpkins can be used. Thanks for sharing!

May I suggest that you use one of the faux pumpkins that can be found at craft stores? It will save the cards from any type of damage. They are made to be carved and can be quite beautiful. The pumpkin can them be put away for holiday decor. No waste.

Sue - That's a great idea for a fall wedding, but I'd suggest lining the inside at least twice and pinning the liner so it won't come loose. If the pumpkin is carved or hollowed just a day or two before the wedding it should be fine. Just make sure it is large enough to serve as a card box, and that cards can be inserted easily. Best wishes!

Has anyone ever tried using a real pumpkin as a wedding card holder? I'd line the inside with plastic wrap. Too smelly? Too damp?

BethG - One idea is to get an inexpensive table and bolt a simple letterbox (with a small slot that can't be reached through) to it so it can't be removed without crawling under the table to unbolt it (this would be relatively easy for a handyman to do). Before bolting the box down, drape a simple tablecloth -- perhaps in the mint green -- over it, and bolt the box on top of it. Then you can decorate the rest of the table accordingly, and no one could steal it without taking the entire table. Best wishes!

Does anyone have an idea for an elegant wedding gift card box which would lock or be difficult to steal - I am helping with a wedding which is going to be in a public building, and I want to provide the bride with a sense of security. No real theme, 2nd marriage, outdoor ceremony in the early fall in Kentucky. Colors are mint green/peach/brown/pink accents. Thank you!

Diana - There is no way to tactfully request money in lieu of wedding gifts, though when they are asked about registries they can explain that they don't need the household necessities but they're hoping to splurge on the honeymoon. As for the wedding card box shaped like a cruise ship, that can be difficult - You may want to consider a simple rectangular box and add a cruise ship model to the top, or make the box into an island or other related scene to convey the cruise idea. Don't forget to add "Bon Voyage" and the couple's names!

I'm trying to find a Wedding Card box shaped like a cruise ship for the Bride's shower because they are requesting Fun Ship Dollars instead of registering for gifts. Any ideas?
