Anna - The holiday season is a great time to find silver dresses, or you might consider a white dress with heavy silver accents (train borders, sash, etc.). Check out designers' party dresses for great silver designs.

My wedding dress was in white/claret (Alfred Angelo) people thought it was custom made. I am helping my best freind plan her wedding and we are looking for a silver wedding dress. Any suggestions where to look?

I am so glad to see many are going with the non-traditional and not having a white wedding dress. I am getting married for "real" for the first time and have chosen an apple red dress and my two daughters and step daughter are wearing white with a hint of red and the groomsmen are wearing white shirts. It is a hawaiian themed wedding and I have heard several positive adn negative comments about my red dress. I agree it shoudl be what you are comfortable wearing and I think my wedding party will look great!

Hi Susan and Jennifer,

Unfortunately we are not a wedding dress retailer, so we are unable to send you photos. Check with bridal shops and formalwear departments; even if a colored dress is not sold specifically as a wedding dress, there is no reason they cannot be worn for a wedding. Some designers specifically make colored wedding dresses, such as the examples below, or you may opt to have one custom made.

  • Catherine Davighi created a scarlet "Bird of Paradise' Wedding gown in her 2005 collection
  • Darius Cordell will create any of his wedding gown designs in color
  • Alfred Angelo also makes some colored wedding gowns

Alexis - Designers are always updating and changing their collections with each season, and some add color in more unique ways than others. A touch of color may be added to flowery lace, borders, or inset panels in different dresses. Alternatives also include designer bridesmaid dresses in gorgeous colors that you could use as a wedding dress.

Angie -- I'm sorry, the photo is a stock image from a generic gallery; we don't have more information on the gown. You might check local wedding and formal gown shops because they often carry homecoming and prom styles in gorgeous colors that would be great for a colored wedding dress.

I believe that your wedding dress should be what you want it to be. And to be honest, white wedding dresses are a fairly modern tradition. Not too long ago, dresses were a variety of colors.

My wedding dress is a very deep pink. Not pale by any means. My mother was pretty shocked, and a little upset. But I fell in love with the dress, and it took a little bit of courage on my end to go ahead and purchase the dress. My wedding isn't until January, and I'm still somewhat nervous about the reaction. But at the same time, I felt beautiful in this dress, and probably would have regretting not following my heart. I hope to see more brides choose color in the future.
