What Did He Say?!
From LoveToKnow Weddings
Ask any of the 'behind the scenes' people from my wedding about mishaps, and they could probably provide a lengthy list of things that went wrong, from an ornery wedding site owner who called on my wedding night to accuse me of stealing his wine bottle opener, to a runaway cat that was later found under the bed, and the minister thinking the ceremony started at 6 o'clock, when it really started at 4 o'clock. After a frantic phone call from the mother of the groom, he was an hour late.
As the bride, however, I can truly say that none of those things bothered me in the least. To this day, I still get compliments on how calm and happy I was on that day. There is one thing, though, that I may never get over.
Many brides will admit to not remembering the words spoken during the ceremony, or being too excited and nervous to even listen. For the most part, I confess the same. I do, however, remember the minister's opening words to his long, boring, and unpredictable message:
"Today in Iraq, mass weddings are taking place in honor and celebration of Sadaam Hussein's birthday. I'm sure that's not the reason we are here today."
It certainly was not.
