Carol - It's usually considered poor etiquette to ask guests to give any gift, but especially just money. I wouldn't make any mention of gifts in the invitation, but when guests inquire you can personally explain the cir...stances so they understand the couple's preferences. Putting it in the invitation -- even indicating that no gift is required -- is considered poor form.
-- Contributed by: Melissa MayntzMy son and future daughter-inlaw lived together out of state for about one year in their own apartment and aquired most basic household items. They are back home now saving money for a downpayment on a home. They are hoping to purchase a home before the wedding and I am wondering if instead of them registering somewhere, because they have most items needed that would normally be included in a registry gift list, we can have them set up a special savings account used toward furnishing their new home as an alternative. For example, word it: While residing in Virginia the Bride and Groom aquired most of their needed housedhold items and are not on a registry. However, they have recently purchased a home and have set up a special savings account for use toward furnishing their new home. If you are interested in contributing, you can make your special gift deposit at any local National City Bank. Please know that your attendence and well wishes are the specialist gift of all and we hope you will be able to celebrate their special day with us. Please let me know if this is tacky or how we can word it better...Thanks so much, Carol
