Wedding Invitation Card

From LoveToKnow Weddings

If you plan to have numerous enclosures in your wedding invitation, consider using a wedding invitation card. This makes it easy for your guests to keep all of the information together, instead of floating around their house where it can easily get lost.

Wedding Invitation Card Enclosures

Because no wedding invite is complete without several enclosures, you may want to use a card-style invite. Because it folds over, your guests will not drop all of the additional information you included. They can keep and store your wedding information in one place without losing it.

Most invitations have the following enclosures:

  • Reception card
  • RSVP card
  • Driving directions from the church to reception site
  • Area hotel listings

For some weddings, a menu is included for guests to choose their main dish. Including registry information is considered improper and poor etiquette.

Pre-Designed Cards

Pre-designed cards can be found just about anywhere. Craft stores and discount stores often carry kits for making your own wedding invitation card. You simply choose the kit with the design that fits your theme and then use your computer to print the information onto the card.

Another idea for a pre-designed card is to use your wedding programs as invitations. This allows your theme to be carried further, as you can use the exact same or similar cards. Because programs are often priced at one dollar (often much less) per sheet, you can save money in this area by using programs as invitations.

You can choose your own variations on how to organize the information, but most cards have the bride and groom’s names on the front, along with the wedding date. Sometimes the bride and groom choose to put a phrase with special meaning on the front of the card as well.

The inside of the card would have the traditional wording found on single page wedding invitations.

Wedding supply stores, tuxedo shops, and wedding dress shops often have a large selection of wedding invitation cards you can order. Simply choose the design you like and add the wording of your choice. While more expensive than other options, they are a classic and easy option for many brides-to-be.

Make Your Own Cards

Consider making your own wedding invitation card. For a small wedding, a handmade card is a personal touch that adds significance to your day. You can find most supplies at craft stores. Consider using:

  • Card stock
  • Vellum
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbons
  • Handmade papers
  • Calligraphy pens
  • Stamps and ink pads in wedding colors

For a unique twist, consider making your cards into a tri-fold (like a pamphlet). You can put an engagement photo on the front; have a personal message on the first fold and your wedding invitation wording in the middle section once it is unfolded. Put information you normally would have used enclosures for on the two sides of the unfolded invite.

Pamphlet style invitations can be placed in off-white or white textured resume envelopes. This is more elegant looking than using business envelopes but cheaper than purchasing special envelopes just for your invitations.

An alternative to using stickers to seal the invitations is to purchase a wax-seal kit. These can be found at various hobby or candle stores in your area. Get the sealing wax in your main wedding color. Use a seal with hearts, stars, palm tree, or monogram to tie it in with your theme.
