Make a Sweet Theme with Wedding Cake Cookie Cutters

Wedding cake cookie cutters can help out a reception in several ways. A bride may choose to give out the cutters as favors, use them to make cookie favors, or make a cookie cake instead of a traditional one.

Bake up a unique cookie “cake” or favors for your wedding guests using a shaped cookie cutter.

The shape obviously ties into a wedding simply by being a tiered cake. However, chefs, culinary artists, or bakers may want to incorporate their occupation into their wedding planning and these cutters make it possible.

Buy cake shaped cutters in plastic or a lightweight metal if you are giving them out as favors. This can keep the cost per cutter down. Purchase a more durable cutter or two if you plan to bake cookies in the shape of the cake.

Cutter Favors

Wedding cake cookie cutters are a favorite favor for many brides and guests. Tying into the wedding related theme, the cutters make fun mementos for everyone involved.

You may want to place the cutters in a large bowl in the middle of each table, with a small sign next to them; you could also place them on the cake table for people to pick up as they pass. In receptions where seating is assigned, use them as your placecards at each table setting.

When using a wedding cake cutter as a favor, you should put a little note near or on the cutters so that guests understand they are the favors. Popular phrases include:

  • John and Jane were “cut out” for each other. Thank you for attending our wedding on March 10, 2007!
  • Jane thinks John takes the cake! We appreciate your support on our wedding day.
  • The Smiths think you’re too sweet for attending their wedding. Thank you for coming!

Tie the note onto the cutter with a ribbon in your wedding color. Or make a small placard to sit near a bowl of cutters.

Wedding cake cookie cutters can be found in affordable prices at the following online retailers:

  • Amazon—Cutters with a heart on top are only one dollar each.
  • Weddings by Dezign—Cutters available for three and a half dollars each. They come wrapped all ready with a pre-printed personalized tag attached.
  • Fancy Flours—A five inch high, four tiered cutter is available for four dollars.

Cookie Favors

Choosing to make cookies in the shape of wedding cakes makes a great favor as well. Before you begin, make sure you have a good sugar cookie recipe. A royal icing works well for decorating the cookies.

These homemade favors would work great for a bridal shower, bachelorette party, engagement party, or other pre-wedding activity you have planned.

Make cookies using your cutters no more than a month before the wedding. Cookies freeze well for about a month. Decorate them after they have thawed out, about three days before the wedding.

Decorating the cake can be done in plain white frosting or with colors. You can choose to put a few words on the cookie cake if you choose; consider your last name, both first names, or the date. Wrap them in cellophane and tie them with a ribbon.

If you have a cupcake cake, choose cookie cutters in cupcake shapes in order to make your cookies. Place the cookies on the cake table or by each person’s plate.

Cookies as a Cake

Use your wedding cake cookie cutter to make a one-of-a-kind wedding “cake” out of cookies. After baking and decorating your cookies, you can purchase a tiered cake stand. Stack the cookies on each tier until they are about three-quarters of the way to the bottom of the next tier. Repeat until all the tiers are full.

The cookie frosting should be completely dried before stacking the tiers. You may want to decorate them simply, in only one or two colors. The unique wedding cake you make out of the cookies will be the showpiece of your reception. You may choose to buy cake cookie cutters in several sizes of the same shape. Start the bottom tier with the largest size and gradually decrease the size of the cookie as you work your way to the top of the cake stand.

No matter how you choose to incorporate wedding cake cookie cutters into your wedding festivities, you can be sure your guests will appreciate the original idea you incorporated.
