Fortunately, there's a way to keep loved ones informed without having to recite the details on a daily basis. Many couples are putting up websites listing all of their wedding details.

Benefits of a Wedding Website

The beautiful thing about a personal wedding website is that the couple's story can be told with words, pictures and even music. The bride or groom to be can update at their leisure and family and friends can view the website at their convenience. If the couple is having a sponsored wedding, this would be a good way to advertise their sponsors.

The website is a way of allowing loved ones to live vicariously through the happy couple. They're not exactly making the plans, but they're apprised of what's going on without having to pick up the phone or dominate party or social talk with wedding business.

Wedding websites are great for those who have planned a destination wedding as they can include maps and links of hotels and motels, tourist attractions, restaurants and beaches. It can also list flight information. This saves wedding guests from having to do Internet searches on their own.

Components of a Wedding Website

When wedding guests visit a wedding website, they expect to learn all of the pertinent wedding details, as well as wedding plan updates. Included on a the site should be:

  • Wedding date
  • Ceremony time
  • Reception time
  • Maps to ceremony and reception locations
  • Links to ceremony and reception websites
  • Pictures of the reception area, the church, bridesmaids dresses and anything else you don't want to be a surprise
  • Notes to various members of the wedding party
  • Wedding or honeymoon registry information
  • Wedding plan updates

Newsletters vs. Websites

Wedding newsletters are the latest trend. The Wedding website is similar to the newsletter in that it keeps friends and family updated. Many feel the newsletter is more of a hassle however, because it involves making copies and purchasing postage and mailing copies. A website is not necessarily more cost efficient though, as hosting fees and a domain name have to be paid for. Yes, there is free web hosting available, but the bandwidth is limited, which is bad news for those wishing to use lots of pictures. Free websites also come with annoying pop-up and banner ads which cheapen the look.

If a member of the happy couple isn't such a great writer and is more talented at web design, a website may be the way to go. Plus they can fool around with the layout and make the layout elegant or whimsical – or whatever reflects their tastes and lifestyle.

The Wedding Website

If you're looking for a way to keep your loved ones updated, a wedding website may be the way to go. It's fun for you and convenient for your guests. It doesn't get much better than that.
