Unique Wedding Invitations
From LoveToKnow Weddings
In a world of formal ivory invitations, is there room for something a little different? A unique wedding invitation can set the tone for the wedding to come. Let your invitation tell your guests what kind of celebration they will be attending – the colors, the theme, the level of formality. Personalize your invitations by making them yourself, or having them custom made. Use every element of the invite as an opportunity to be unique – even the postage!
Handmade Invitations
Handmade invitations can be extremely intricate, but they can also be easier than you think. Admittedly, if you are planning a large wedding, handmade may not be the way to go. But for a small to mid sized celebration, a budget minded, dedicated bride can put together lovely and unique wedding invitations. A rectangle of cardstock in your wedding color with a strip of accent paper down one side can make a tastefully simple invite, and is a cinch to put together. Many scrap booking or paper crafts stores will allow patrons to use store paper cutters at no charge, as long as supplies are purchased there.
3-D elements have become popular on invitations. These items can easily be incorporated into handmade invitations. Use them to showcase your own style or personality. The variety of options here is virtually limitless. Visit any paper crafts or scrap booking store to find a wide variety of ribbons, charms, brads, rivets, die cut shapes, and other embellishments.
Rubber stamping is also an easy way to personalize wedding invitations and other stationery. Stamps can be purchased with almost any picture imaginable, and with the range of ink colors available, it’s easy to match your wedding colors. Using stamps to customize your wedding stationery can be a cheaper alternative than buying pre-printed paper with the same theme. In addition, rubber stamps make it simple to carry the theme of your invitations throughout your wedding. For example, purchase blank cards and place cards. Use the same stamp to create personalized thank you notes and place cards.
Color can also be used to create a unique wedding invitation. Instead of sticking with the traditional white or ivory, try using bold colors or textured papers in your invites. These too are all readily available today. Color can be used to reflect many different aspects of your wedding – the season, the location, or the level of formality.
Unique Wedding Invitations Using Custom Artwork
Invitations that feature artwork can be beautiful and very personal. The artist can tailor the invitation to your exact specifications. Custom invitations give a bride so many options. The art can reflect your wedding theme, wedding colors, or even include a picture of you and your fiancé. Many artists will also create similarly themed programs, thank you notes, place cards, or other wedding stationery for your celebration. These invitations are a bit pricier, but will truly be unique to your wedding.
Postage Stamps
Use the stamps on your invites and RSVP cards to express your personality. With the variety of stamps available today, you needn’t limit yourself to the traditional “Love” theme. Choose stamps to match your wedding theme, your colors or your honeymoon destination. Through the US Postal Service’s “Photo Stamps,” you can even personalize your stamps with photos. Make stamps from your engagement portrait, or even photos of you and your fiancé as youngsters.
An invitation can let guests know whether to expect an elegant and formal affair, or a wild and crazy party. By using non traditional elements, invitations and other wedding stationery add a distinctive flavor to the overall tone of the wedding celebration. With a little imagination, a bride on any budget can have a unique wedding invitation she will always remember.
