Unique Wedding Favor

From LoveToKnow Weddings

Every bride wants her wedding to be memorable, unique wedding favors can help. From the gown to the flowers to the reception, there are plenty of opportunities to express your personality. However, because the possibilities for favors are unlimited, it is often the easiest area of your wedding to let your imagination run wild. A unique wedding favor can add that special touch to a reception and make an impression that will last beyond the party. These days, a bride has countless options. In fact, many companies specialize in only wedding favors. Costs for favors can be a minor part of your wedding budget, or one of the most expensive items. But no matter what the cost, with a little imagination, you can have a unique wedding favor. Don't limit yourself to just the traditional. Take inspiration from your wedding, your life, or your surroundings to pick something that truly shows your personalities. Use these ideas to get you started!

Name

We’ve all seen wedding favors personalized with a monogram, name or wedding date. But what else is in a name? A bride whose new last name was Shoecraft offered cookie favors. They were shaped like high heeled shoes and decorated in colors to match her wedding. Use your name in a non traditional way to make your wedding favors unique.

Season

The season in which your wedding is held can be the source for several ideas. Personalize packets of seeds with your names and wedding date for a spring wedding, or give small potted plants in the summer. Personalized mugs and hot cocoa mix make for a cozy winter treat, while caramel apples wrapped in cellophane and tied with a fancy ribbon are great fall treats.

Location

Where are you getting married? A local souvenir is fun, especially if there are many out of town guests. Try mini jugs of maple syrup for a Vermont wedding, buckeye candies for Ohio nuptials, or horse and jockey figurines in your wedding colors for a Kentucky celebration.

Useful Items

Even an every day item can be a unique and memorable wedding favor. Give guests something they can use each day. Put place cards in picture frames for guests to take home. Pick personalized pens and notepads in a theme that matches your wedding. Every time wedding guests use these items, they will think of you and the wonderful time they had at your wedding celebration.

Color

Tie your favors in with your wedding colors. A hot pink and orange celebration could be enhanced with candy orange and grapefruit slices, while white and milk chocolates compliment an ivory and brown theme nicely.

Charity

Many couples these days are opting to make a charitable donation in lieu of favors. Although not an actual favor, this is another way to express you and your fiancé’s personalities. Donate to a charity in which you are active, or whose work is particularly meaningful to you. Post a short explanation of the reason on the announcement cards or in the program. Telling why you picked that charitable cause will resonate with guests.

Family

Some couples use unique wedding favors to celebrate a family member. A bride I knew honored her deceased grandmother by giving cookie cutters with a ribbon and label attached. One side of the label had the names and wedding date, the other her grandmother's famous sugar cookie recipe.

Unique Wedding Favors Can be Easy With a Little Thought

Don’t stop with the ideas above. Think of your hobbies, interests, or professions as possible sources of inspiration. With just a little bit of thought, you can come up with a wedding favor so unique to you that your guests will be buzzing about it for months to come.
