The DJ
From LoveToKnow Weddings
The greatest day of my life turned into a nightmare during my reception.
Wedding Extras... Karaoke?
The actual ceremony was lovely. For my reception, our DJ was kind enough to bring five of his friends with him to our wedding. Neither my new husband nor I knew any of them. As an added bonus, after they had dinner, his friends drank an ample supply of alcohol from our free bar and treated us to a karaoke show.
Yes, it's true. My DJ decided that we needed karaoke at our reception. We didn't ask for this service. He provided it free of charge without our permission. He didn't allow any of our wedding guests to sing because he brought his own singers. He politely informed my guests that this was a karaoke show for people to listen to only. No singers were permitted.
The Wedding "Singers"
My husband and I were getting pictures taken outside when my mother came running out of the reception hall. She told me that she asked the DJ to stop the karaoke because the singers were horrible. The DJ was offended and told my mother to mind her own business. I couldn't believe it, so we went inside to investigate and sure enough, a woman was butchering the love song from The Titanic.
The woman singing the song kept making mistakes, so the DJ allowed her to begin again, four times. I am not exaggerating! Four times in a row, the song stopped halfway through and went back to the beginning so she could try it again.
No, Don't Go!
People were leaving in droves because she sang like an American Idol reject. I knew I had to put an end to our misery before I lost all of my guests, so I approached the DJ and asked him to stop the karaoke. I was polite and I tried to be as nice as possible. He completely ignored me and allowed another one of his followers up to the microphone.
This time my husband approached him and told him absolutely no more singing. The DJ said, "ok" and then allowed the next singer up. By this time, at least thirty people had left as a direct result of the terrible strain on their ears. I approached the DJ and informed him that he would not be paid if one more person stepped up to the microphone.
Finally....No More Singing
He understood this language, and after the song ended, he got on the microphone himself and said, "the bride from hell says we can't do anymore karaoke so I guess we won't be singing anymore."
My guests cheered because there would be no more singing. My husband lost his temper and fired the DJ on the spot for referring to me as, "the bride from hell," over the microphone. Needless to say, we did not pay him for his services.
DJ's Day in Court
Three months later, we were summoned to court because our wonderful DJ sued us for the five hundred dollars owed to him for providing the music for our wedding. He told the judge that he provided adequate entertainment for our reception and we refused to pay him. He forgot to mention that he was fired after two hours.
He denied our claim that he ruined our night, so we showed the judge our reception video. The judge dismissed the case immediately.
