Plus Size Wedding Dresses
From LoveToKnow Weddings
Where and how does one shop for a plus size wedding dress? Every bride wants to wear a beautiful wedding dress. Full figured women are no exception. Just because one is not slim doesn’t mean one shouldn’t have the whole fairytale.
The Bridal Boutique
If you’d like to browse your local bridal boutique, your best bet is to call ahead to find out if they do, indeed, sell plus size gowns. In many cases, they stop at size 14 or 16 and don’t carry larger. If they have a selection of dresses in your size, go ahead and make an appointment. If they don’t, move on to another venue. Keep in mind, the selection for the full figured woman might not be so great. If you don’t see what you like, don’t despair, and for heaven’s sake, don’t settle. You still have options.
The Plus Size Clothing Store
Many shops specializing in plus size merchandise do sell wedding dresses. Since they also sell clothes for business and every day, the selection of wedding and formal wear might not be too impressive either. Still it’s worth a look. You might find the dress of your dreams at one of these shops. Since it was designed with the plus size woman in mind, you have a good chance of finding a dress that flatters your body type.
The Internet
Believe it or not, the Internet is an excellent source of plus size wedding dresses. A quick Google search will yield hundreds of websites for shops and designers specializing in gowns for the full figured woman. If you don’t find your dream dress at one of the other venues, you’ll definitely find one online. There’s just one problem.
When you purchase a dress over the Internet, you can’t try it on. Wedding dress sizes are funny, plus size wedding dresses are no exception. In many cases, they run large, but there are also those that run on the small size. If you’ll be ordering a dress from an online shop, you’ll need to take a few precautions.
Measuring Up
If you’re ordering your dress from the Internet or a mail order catalog, you’ll want to take your exact measurements. Even though some are inevitable, every bride wants to make as few alterations as possible.
Be thorough and check your measurements with those on the chart at the website. If you’re unsure, add a half inch to an inch. You can always take the dress in; you won’t always be able to let the dress out.
Every bride should look her very best on her wedding day. The full figured woman is no exception. Don’t settle for any dress just because it comes in your size. Take your time. Browse the shops online and in the real world. You’ll look stunning!

Valerie - You can try to sell your gown via CraigsList, eBay, or other online auction sites, or use local classifieds. Some wedding vendors may also have bulletin boards where you can post flyers, or you could do that at local churches to let brides-to-be know.

-- Contributed by: valerieDaphne - Your best resource would be to research online and find designers and wedding retailers who offer a dress you like in an appropriate size. I'd recommend having a local seamstress take your measurements so you have accurate sizes to compare with, and shop for a dress that fits your largest measurement - the other measurements can be taken in if necessary. Best wishes!
