My Perfect Day: Havoc Comes in Threes!

From LoveToKnow Weddings

Every bride wants her wedding to be perfect, and I was no exception. I went through a lot of agony and expense to plan the perfect wedding and I was quite pleased, until the day of the wedding when everything blew up in my face.

Strike One

Understandably some people run late. My pastor dropped us a call to let us know that he was stuck in traffic and would probably be about thirty minutes late. No big deal, right?

We all sat around fluffing our dresses and powdering our noses. I put on an extra coat of clear nail polish to make sure that my beautifully manicured fingernails would be flawless when I walked down the aisle and my dear sister was constantly checking on me to see if I was really okay.

The sky was blue, the birds were singing and the sun shining ever so brightly, our pastor made it just as planned. I breathed a long sigh of relief … a little too soon!

As I was walking down the aisle everyone looked at me so graciously. I saw my soon to be husband standing waiting for me with a smirk on his face and I took my place beside him at the alter, the world seemed a perfect place for a split second.

As soon as the pastor opened his mouth our service wass interrupted by the loudest thud I’ve ever heard. Everyone in the church nearly jumped out of their seat. We all turn to look at the entrance doors only to see my ex-boyfriend in all of his drunk glory holding a fifth in one hand and a teddy bear in the other.

Of course, I just about came unglued, my family gasped and my hubby to be wasn’t too happy either.

My ex-boyfriend (we dated for a mere 3 months nearly two years prior) staggered down the aisle yelling, “You can’t marry him, I love you!”

Thank God I have two big uncles because they managed to get him out of the church and I stood at the alter with tears running down my face because I was so embarrassed. Little did I know that the worst was yet to happen.

Strike Two!

We made it through the rest of the service just fine. We said our vows and went to the basement of the church for our reception. The music was playing and my husband's friends decided to pick him up to run around the room with the married fella one-time … tragedy struck!

My husband toppled off the shoulders of his buddies onto a tabletop only to land on the top of his head. He was out for the count. Mom called 911 on her cell phone and he was picked up by the paramedics to be checked out at the emergency room.

That busted up the reception but hubby was okay, he just had a big bump!

My in-laws booked our honeymoon reservations for us, my husband was a trooper and he was bound not to let a bump on his head keep us away from a week in Cancun, so at 9 p.m. as scheduled we boarded our flight and off we went.

Third Time Unlucky

As luck would have it, havoc comes in threes!

Once we arrived in Cancun we discovered that the hotel reservations were made for the following week, not the day we landed. We stood there looking around like idiots with no room.

I broke!

I sat down on the hotel floor and I just cried. I felt like there was some universal power of the universe working against us and it was just too strong for me. My hubby never cracked under pressure. He spoke with the hotel management, they quickly fixed the problem and we were safely in our room.

That afternoon we went to the beach to see the sunset and when I looked at my new hubby I realized that despite all the trouble we went through,it was sure worth it. Our week went smooth without anymore-ill events and five years later, we’re better than ever. I wouldn’t marry again for all the money in the world though!
