Great Mother and Son Wedding Songs

The best song to choose is one that has special meaning for both the groom and the mother of the groom. Perhaps it is one of the songs Mom heard on her wedding night, or one that the two of you sang along together with on long car rides. Even if it is not a traditional wedding dance song, if it holds special meaning, it will be a great choice for this memorable dance.

Another great way to choose a mother and son song is to pick a tune by an artist you both love. It could be a song from the first concert you attended together, or maybe even a song from a movie that both of you love. Love themes from favorite childhood animated movies like Aladdin or Cinderella would make excellent dance songs.

Most men want to strike an appropriate balance between fun and sentimentality when it comes to emotional acts. Therefore, finding a suitable mother and son song can be difficult. Even the most caring son can have trouble expressing his sentiments when it comes to the woman who raised him.

Sentimental Favorites

A wedding is an emotional affair for everyone involved. So show your mom how much she means to you by playing one of the following songs:

  • You’re the Inspiration by Chicago
  • Could I Have This Dance by Anne Murray
  • You are the Sunshine of My Life by Stevie Wonder
  • You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban
  • Three Times a Lady by Commodores
  • Memories by Elvis Presley
  • In My Life by The Beatles
  • Hero by Mariah Carey
  • Forever Young by Rod Stewart

A number of sentimental songs that are played for the mother and son dance could also be possibilities for the first dance wedding song between the bride and the groom. To avoid any hurt feelings, be sure to run the song ideas by the bride for her input before choosing a final selection. Once you have chosen a few possibilities together as a couple, you may want to ask the mother of the groom for her input. You may also choose to have the song be a surprise; it is up to you.

If the sentimental theme is not something you want to play upon, you could also go in another direction, like a classic rock song or dance hit from decades past. Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N’ Roses and Dancing Queen by ABBA are two examples of more “rocking” mother/song songs.

Country Classics

The country music genre may not be your first pick for everyday music listening, but do not count it out when it comes to finding a great song. A number of popular country artists have sung memorable songs honoring relationships, parents, and children through the years.

Any of the following songs would be appropriate for mother and son wedding songs:

  • There You’ll Be by Faith Hill
  • Then They Do by Trace Adkins
  • The Baby by Blake Shelton
  • I’ll Be by Reba McEntire
  • Let Them Be Little by Billy Dean
  • Through The Years by Kenny Rogers
  • The Dance by Garth Brooks

Country music also offers more light-hearted fare, especially the contemporary songs being produced in recent years. Check out the recent release by Clay Walker called 'Fore She Was Mama for an unexpected but amusing twist on the traditionally sentimental songs.
