Benefits of Hiring a Limousine

Most will agree, a limousine is worth the expense. Benefits include:

  • Allows bride and/or groom and their entourage to arrive at the church on time looking fresh. Since none of the key players have to drive, the ride to the ceremony location is festive, helping to alleviate pre-wedding stress and jitters.
  • A limousine driver can take the bride and groom first to the photography location then to the reception venue. Without having to worry about driving, the bride and groom can relax and enjoy each other’s company for the first time as husband and wife.
  • A limousine driver can take the bride and groom to the airport, hotel or other honeymoon destination. This is especially important if the happy couple has been drinking during the wedding or aren’t sure of directions.
  • The driver knows the lay of the land and generally doesn’t get lost.

Tips for Hiring a Limousine

  • Ask to see proof of insurance. If your representative balks at showing you an up to date, valid policy, move on to the next company.
  • Get recommendations from other couples, churches, your wedding planner and the catering hall. Ask for references from the limousine company and check each one.
  • Do a check with the Better Business Bureau to make sure there are no black marks against this company.
  • If you’re going to be traveling across state lines, find out what is required of your limousine service for it to be in compliance.
  • Find out about the company’s cancellation policy. Get everything in writing.
  • Begin to investigate limousine companies six to nine months before the wedding. It’s best to book early, especially during the popular spring and summer wedding months.
  • Find out the minimum number of hours you’ll be expected to have the limousine at your disposal. Most companies require you to hire the limo for at least two to three hours.
  • When pricing a limousine service, ask if the driver’s gratuity is included in the total. If not, expect to tip the driver about 20% of the total limousine payment.
  • Bus and Hummer sized limos are fun, but are they necessary? Be sure you want to go overboard before signing a contract. Many couples would rather splurge on aspects of the honeymoon or reception than to rent an oversized limo. Also, if your driver is going to have to navigate many narrow streets, this may not be possible in an oversized stretch. Before you commit, ask your account manager if navigating narrow streets will be a problem. It might be easier to rent two or more limousines, enough to accommodate the bridal party, than to hire one oversized model.
  • Find out what extras are included. Will you get complimentary champagne? Snacks? Music and television? Don’t wait until the last minute to find out you have to pay for the perks.
  • Visit the limousine company in person, never commit over the phone. Ask to see the fleet of limousines. If anything seems out of place, go with another company.
