Las Vegas Wedding: Obtaining a Marriage License
From LoveToKnow Weddings
Las Vegas is the most popular wedding destination in the country; if you are planning to get married there, you may wonder how to obtain a Las Vegas marriage license.
With marriage ceremonies to suit all tastes and lifestyles, is it any wonder over 100,000 weddings are performed each year? Las Vegas weddings are quick, convenient and, in many cases, inexpensive. Often, they are ideal for the spur-of-the-moment couple. If you think you can just walk into a chapel and ask to be pronounced husband and wife however, you’re sadly misinformed. There’s a small matter of business to take care of first. Before you pack up your best white dress to catch the next flight to Sin City, there’s something you should know about having a Las Vegas wedding.
The Marriage License
Part of the allure of the Las Vegas wedding is that it can be done at a moment’s notice. Well….almost. A couple has to put their spontaneity on ice for about half an hour since they will need to obtain a license first. There’s no waiting period when it comes to obtaining a marriage license in Las Vegas. No blood test is required either. To procure a marriage license, the happy couple is required to bring a valid driver’s license, birth certificate, resident alien card, military identification or passport and $55.00 cash. No credit cards or personal checks are allowed. Don’t show up at the chapel without your license. It’s illegal to get married without one in your possession.
Legalities
If you wish to get married without a parent’s consent, you must be over the age of 18. Love struck teenagers aged 17 and 18 may only get married if each are accompanied by a parent or have a notarized or otherwise official document signed by each parent granting permission.
After you receive a license, you have a year to get married. After that, you must obtain a new license. It’s illegal to grant a license for someone who is already married, so Las Vegas is not the place to go to renew your vows.
Only couples of the opposite sex may get married in Las Vegas as of this writing.
If you’re divorced, you need to know the date and year of your divorce, but do not need to bring the decree.
To Obtain Your License
Your license can be obtained at the Las Vegas Marriage Bureau located at 200 South Third Street, on the third floor. They open from 8:00 AM until midnight Monday through Thursday and weekend from Friday at 8:00 AM until midnight Sunday. They’re also opened 24 hours on holidays. If you have any questions, you can call 702-455-4415.
To save time you can even complete the marriage application online
A Las Vegas wedding can be whatever you want it to be. Everywhere you look there are wedding chapels. A couple can have a traditional wedding with all of the bells and whistles, a themed wedding with a costumed character officiating or even a nude wedding if they’re so inclined. No matter what type of event you choose for your special day, be prepared. Make sure you stop to get your wedding license. Nothing is worse than disappointment on your wedding day.
