About Emanuel Ungaro

French fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro (pronounced Eh-MAHN-wayl Oon-GAH-ro) was born in 1933 to Italian parents who settled in France after fleeing the fascist Italian government. He learned to sew at a young age from his father. Emanuel Ungaro moved to Paris in his early 20s and began designing for the House of Cristobal Balenciaga.

In 1965, Emanuel Ungaro decided it was time to begin his own company. Over the next 30 years, his career expanded to include boutiques and licensing agreements worldwide. The company’s lines now include:
