Cheap Wedding Day
From LoveToKnow Weddings
I must be one of the few women in the world who had the privilege of her fiancé making most of the arrangements and handling the details for our wedding day. I learned a lot about how to benefit from things going wrong- and to stay relaxed and smile. My husband is a talented and charming negotiator.
My wedding day was sprinkled with errors and potential upsets. The rental shop did not have the men’s morning suits ready quite in time, so they offered them for free.
The car rental agency was not able to provide the Rolls Royce and forgot the champagne my fiancé had arranged, and so provided a limousine at no charge.
We were married in Coal Harbour, Vancouver, on the S.S. Beaver, a beautifully restored paddle wheeler. After a few drinks too many, my drunk husband and two of his buddies decided to climb high up the mast with their beverage cups clasped between their teeth.
Understandably, the irate captain threatened to turn the ship around and head back to land. My smooth talking hubby quickly descended and convinced him that they would behave.
The Granville Island Waterfront Hotel booked for our wedding night mixed up our reservations and gave our honeymoon suite to two of our out of town guests, leaving us with a tiny room overlooking a parking lot, so, naturally, we were not billed.
The lessons I learned at the beginning of my marriage have stayed with me, and now I’m very comfortable giving people the opportunity to make amends if a service I have requested is not up to par, or to be quick to apologize and appease if it is me who has erred. I also don’t “sweat the small stuff”- life is too much fun to get worked up about things that go less than perfect.
