Camouflage Wedding Dresses
From LoveToKnow Weddings
Camouflage wedding dresses offer a unique twist on the traditional wedding gown. Although this type of dress might be harder to find, bride still have options for the perfect look, whether it's a camo slip dress for a casual wedding or a more traditional style wedding gown rendered in camouflage fabric.
Why Wear a Camouflage Wedding Gown?
Brides may choose to wear a camouflage wedding gown for a variety of reasons. If the bride, or groom, (or both) have served in the military, or have any family or other military affiliation, the bride may choose to reflect this in her choice of gown. For those who are avid outdoors persons or hunters, camo is a unique way to make a personalized statement in a bride's wedding gown. Some couples may choose camo apparel to add an original touch to their outdoor wedding.
The crossover from functional garments into a stylized fashion trend of camouflage clothing has also influenced dress styles, and women may choose to have either a completely camouflage dress, or a gown with camo accents for her wedding to make a fresh style statement for her wedding. In an age where wedding 'rules' are much more relaxed and new traditions are being made, any bride can feel confidant in camo, whether she's showing her patriotic side, her love of the outdoors, or her fashion-forward persona.
Camo Dress Styles
Camo doesn't have to be informal - some designers have created elegant and feminine formal wedding gowns from camouflage fabric. When choosing your dress, it's important to consider the following: how formal or casual your wedding will be, the season and temperature/climate, and of course, a bride's personal style. If the groom and/or other members of the bridal party will also be dressed in camouflage apparel, be sure to coordinate to make sure the camo will be the same or similar shades.
Styles to consider for camouflage wedding dresses include:
- Formal strapless gowns in camouflage fabric
- Halter style gowns
- Short or cap sleeved gowns
- Camo wrap dresses
- Blouses with camo skirts
- Camo skirt sets
- Camisole style camo dress
- Camo tunic dress
- Colored camouflage dresses
- White, ivory, or beige dresses with camo accents such as:
- A camouflage underlay
- Camo trim on the edge of the skirt
- A band of camo fabric at the top of the bodice
- A band of camo at the bottom of the skirt
Where to Buy Camouflage Wedding Dresses

Custom Camo Gowns
Since the selection of camouflage wedding dresses and formal gowns is fairly small, many women who like this look turn towards a custom dress instead - and they may not be as pricey as you expect. Camouflage pattern fabrics in silk, satin taffeta, and poplin are available from specialty fabric stores and retailers such as:
You can select a dress style or pattern you like, and work with a seamstress either locally or found online that makes custom wedding gowns and formal dresses. You could also discuss altering a dress to have camo accents. The result, like bride Brook Davis discovered in her camo gown, is a one-of-a-kind dress that will create an impression and make wonderful memories for your special day.
To get a coordinated look for your bridesmaids for less, you could consider single-hued green or brown bridesmaid dresses.

Kristol - Ivory flowers would look fabulous; carnations, roses, and calla lilies are all available in richy creamy shades. To add in a bit of camouflage coloring, you can use grains like wheat or add some fall leaves or bare grapevines to the bouquets. The stems could also be wrapped in raffia to coordinate with the beige dresses. Best wishes!
-- Contributed by: Melissa MayntzMy brother is getting married in Oct 08. They want to work in some camo into the wedding.I am doing all the floral arrangments, and I am stuck on what colors to use.If the bride wears a ivory dress and the bridesmaids in a beige or light brown ( or if you can think of a better color). What flowers do you think would look good?

Your seamstress should be able to make the accents very affordably to match the dress you're interested in, though the exact costs will vary depending on the level of work involved, the style of the dress, and the types of fabric you're using.
