Bridal Shower Invitation Wording
From LoveToKnow Weddings
Composing bridal shower invitation wording is a main part of sending bridal shower invitations. Without the right information, guests will not know where to go or what to expect at the shower.
Pertinent Shower Information
The invitation to a bridal shower is usually mailed to guests, so they have all of the important information in one place. When creating the invite, the answers to all five “W’s” need to be included:
- Who: Who the shower is for (bride), who is hosting the shower
- What: Indicate that the party invite is for a bridal shower
- When: Add the date and time
- Where: Location of the shower; add a map or step-by-step directions if the site is hard to find
- Why: To honor the bride and groom; to start the couple off on their new life; to celebrate the upcoming nuptials
Certain bridal showers may require additional information be enclosed. For example, a shower held at a honky-tonk bar and grill may need “Yee-haw, break out those dungarees!” included on the invitation, while one held at an upscale tea room might read “Sunday finery encouraged.”
Putting registry information in wedding invitations is considered a breach of etiquette, but the rules are somewhat looser with regards to registry information on bridal shower invites. Letting people know by word-of-mouth can be difficult if RSVPs are not requested. Hostesses should take into consideration the bride’s social circle’s understanding of wedding registry etiquette before enclosing the registry cards in the shower invitation.
Incorporate Shower Themes
Wedding shower invitations are the perfect time to introduce a bridal shower theme to the guests. A number of themes need guest participation in order for them to work, so it may mean adding a few lines of explanation.
Surprise showers will not work unless guests realize it, or they may mistakenly let the secret out. People who have not previously attended a Round the Clock or A-B-C Shower may not understand the theme. When planning a bridal shower, creating a theme is often the best part. Make sure it works by letting guests in on the fun through the invitations.
Sample Bridal Shower Invitation Wording
Create wording for the bridal shower invitation based upon time, writing skills, and information that needs to be included. Hostesses should decide what is in the best interest of their time and talent and what type of invitation the bride would prefer.
General Wording
General invitations simply extend a polite invitation to the shower event. They often follow more traditional wedding and party invitation wording guidelines. An example of this would be:
Please join us in celebrating
Sarah Jane Jones
With a bridal shower in her honor

2:00 p.m.
1234 Happy Road
WeddingTown, State
Hostesses: Elizabeth Banks and Roberta Showell
Wording may also follow these lines:
You are cordially invited to a bridal shower for

Yummytown, State
On Friday, August 15
At 7:00 p.m.

Theme Wording
Invitation wording for a themed shower will need to let guests know what is required of them. Wording is often written in rhyming or verse fashion, though not always.
Consider the following wording for a kitchen or baking themed shower:
John asked Jean to bake a cake.
But what, oh what, will she make?
Help her decide by bringing your favorite cake recipe
To a Dessert and Kitchen Shower in Jean Brown’s honor
Saturday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m.

A cute Lingerie-n-Linens Shower invitation can be written like this:
Jack will be singing a happy tune
When time comes for his honeymoon.
Bring a nightgown, teddy or slip
For Karen to model on their fun Cancun trip!
When they return
They will need to keep that hot heat
But in order to do so, they need some great sheets!
