Bridal Shower Gift

From LoveToKnow Weddings

Finding the perfect bridal shower gift isn’t as difficult as one would think. Sure, today’s independent brides probably don’t need the same pots and pans and dish towels as brides 20 or 30 years ago, but there are still useful items to be found. As long as you know a good deal about the bride, her living situation and her plans for the future, it should be no problem finding a bridal shower gift that’s more than suitable. What follows are some suggestions.

Bridal Shower Gift Registry

Thankfully most brides these days are registered. A bridal shower gift registry is a necessary tool for those shopping for presents the happy couple is sure to use. To make it even easier, couples are registering at more than one location and just about every shop’s registry is available online. No longer do you have to visit the store in person, print out their bridal shower gift registry and walk the aisles until you find a gift that hasn’t already been selected. With today’s online registries, as soon as an item is purchased it’s removed from the list, no duplicates, no returns. The best part is that you know the gift will be appreciated.

Household Items

While many of today’s couples have been living on their own for quite some time prior to marriage, many of them still need household items. Especially if they’re moving into a new home, or renovating. Many couples start off their new life together with a different color scheme or brand new furniture. Everyone can use linens, towels, wall hangings and decorative items such as vases and candle sticks, even if they already have.

Honeymoon Registry

A perfect bridal shower gift for the couple who has everything is to purchase something from their honeymoon registry, if they have one. A honeymoon registry allows for guests to purchase certain aspects of a honeymoon. For instance the air fare, a night’s hotel stay or dinner in a fine restaurant.

Lingerie

Traditionally the mother of the bride is to give lingerie as a bridal shower gift. That’s not to say it’s still poor etiquette for someone else to do so. When you consider the bride should have one new piece of lingerie for each night of her honeymoon, she’s sure to appreciate all of gifts of tasteful lingerie.

Cheryl - Ideally, the gift registries should include the couple's home address, and gifts should be shipped there to avoid needing to arrange for additional transportation. Online registries can help with this, as guests can have gifts shipped directly to the couple. There will be some guests who bring gifts to the wedding, and those will need to be shipped separately with whichever shipping service you choose, but be sure they are packaged well to avoid damage.

My daughter is coming home to California to be married. She is currently living in Illinois while completing her Masters degree and will be there for a few years still. My question is what should we do about the presents - should we have people pick from a registry and have them delivered to her residence or should we ship everything home to her? I don't know what service to ship with if we pick the second option. Help please!
