Asian Wedding Favors
From LoveToKnow Weddings
You don’t have to be from the East for your guests to take home Asian wedding favors. Many couples, regardless of background or culture, have chosen classy, elegant favors with an Asian flair. Some suggestions for Asian wedding favors are listed below.
Soup Spoons
We still display the porcelain soup spoon given to us when we attended a Chinese wedding banquet several years ago. Thought I’m sure it can indeed be used for eating, I choose instead to give it a place of honor in the China cabinet, as it’s truly beautiful. If you’re thinking a soup spoon doesn’t make for a lovely favor, you couldn’t be more wrong. Choose colors and patterns matching those of your wedding and wrap a satin ribbon imprinted with your names and wedding date around the handle. Many couples even choose to place a tulle bag filled with candy, nuts, potpourri or other small items in the spoon’s bowl. In addition to being a truly unique Asian wedding favor, they’re a wonderful conversation piece. All of your guests are sure to appreciate these decorative yet functional gifts.
Fortune Cookies
Perhaps the most obvious choice when considering Asian wedding favors, fortune cookies are also the most popular. These aren’t the same plastic wrapped almond cookies found in the local Mom and Pop takeout joint. Gourmet fortune cookies are a tasty addition to your wedding table. Dipped in white or milk chocolate and dusted with sprinkles or candied pearls, with your name and wedding date imprinted on the fortune, your guests are sure to enjoy this whimsical treat. Place treats in min take out boxes tied with ribbon for a unique touch.
Tea Cups
Don’t you just love the small teacups used in Asian restaurants? Now your guests can take some home. Like the soup spoons, tea cups are available in colors matching your wedding and a variety of patterns. Wrap a silk ribbon around the cup for a festive, elegant touch.
Fans
Fans are another popular Asian wedding favor. They’re available in a variety of colors and patterns with your names and wedding date imprinted on the handle. A tassel of silk or satin ribbons hangs from the handle.
Chopsticks
Another whimsical yet popular Asian wedding favor is a set of chopsticks. They come in a variety of colors or with the Chinese symbol for “Double Happiness” engraved on one side and your name and wedding date on another. The chopsticks can be tied together with silk or satin ribbons or red string, symbolizing good luck.
Incense
Incense comes in a variety of scents. Put several in engraved silver boxes or wrap with an elegant ribbon or red string.
Asian Wedding Favor Boxes
There are many types and styles of favor boxes with an Asian flair. For instance, a silver fortune cookie shaped box doubles as a place card holder. Porcelain boxes stamped with the symbols for “Double Happiness” can be filled with candy, almonds or nothing at all. Tea boxes can be engraved with your name and wedding date.
Symbolism
If you really want to get in the spirit, incorporate red string into your Asian wedding favors. Red string (found in many Asian supermarkets) symbolizes good luck. A small piece of evergreen tucked into the favor will represent longevity.
Where to Find
If you live in an area where there’s a local “Chinatown” this would be a good place to start looking for Asian wedding favors. Visit Asian wedding planners, florists or bridal shops. If they don’t sell favors, the sales people will, no doubt, be happy to guide you.
The Internet is also a good place to start. Do a search for “Asian Wedding Favors” and you’ll soon find so many Online retailers your biggest dilemma will be how to narrow down your choices.
