What is your opinion on wedding color trends? Will they (or did they) influence your decision for your color scheme? What else besides the current trends will influence the decision on your colors?

For our August wedding, we chose light blue, lavender, and ivory. The combination wasn’t necessarily on trend, but I loved the colors and was very pleased with how the flowers, cake, and wedding party apparel all turned out.

To be honest, I was a little ahead of the trends; I went with black bridesmaids dresses about 5 years ago, which are quite popular now. The reason I chose black wasn’t because I loved it, but because I simply couldn’t find quite the “right” shade of red in a simple dress. Deep red and plum purple were the accent colors. The wedding was in January, if that matters.

If I had to do it over again, I’d chose champagne and wine red (second choice, but the bridesmaids all hated the idea of wearing champagne dresses) or a mix of blues and winter whites.

I like trends in clothing and makeup, but not memorable events like weddings. I think you should go with what you’ve been dreaming of if you’re one of those people who, as a little girl, planned the whole thing out as you grew up (I wasn’t one of those people!). I wouldn’t let anything deter me if I had that kind of vision! I think colors should reflect the couple more than the year they’re married.

Some of the things I considered when choosing my colors: What “feel” did I want for the wedding, which colors could all of my bridesmaids wear (I didn’t want anyone looking washed out in the pics and then feeling horrible about the way they looked), how much did I want my flowers to “pop” against my dress, what color spoke for the season (not a trend exactly, but pastels for spring, brights for summer, earth tones for fall, jewel tones for winter, etc, based on how the lighting would reflect off of the colors).

If you have a venue in mind, you could choose colors based on the background in your pictures. I never looked at a bridal magazine to find out what the “hot” new colors were for weddings.

I honestly wouldn’t consider trends, unless you feel “classic” is a trend. I’d be much more likely to choose something that blended well with the season (pastels for spring, bold shades for summer, autumn colors for fall, jewel tones for winter) rather than looking at what is supposedly popular at the moment. Of course, I think for any bride it also depends on what colors are available in bridal shops, and hopefully she’d consider the skin tone and preferences of her attendants as well.

Me too…i usually don’t go with the trend. What matters most for me is the comfort. For weddings i advice you and your soon to be husband must both decide what color best suits your love story…

That’s an excellent point, matavils - you need to choose the colors you like and that make you comfortable and happy! Some couples prefer bold, bright colors that shout out their joy, while others are more gentle and reserved but no less romantic. So long as it suits you, it’s the right choice!
