How do you feel about having the flower girl’s hair and/or makeup done for the wedding? I know some people feel strongly that little girls should look like little girls and be natural, while others have varying opinions. Personally, I think having a cute curly updo is fine, but I’d draw the line at makeup for someone under 10 (and maybe even a little older, to be honest).

What are your thoughts? And, if the flower girl or her mom or the bride does want hair/makeup done, who pays? The parents or the bride?

I am in the “little girls should look like little girls” camp, but there are some really cute, girly hairstyles for flower girls that won’t look over the top, but will still be special for a wedding. I don’t think makeup is at all appropriate, however, because most girls in the flower girl age range won’t know how to wear it properly and may smear or smudge it, or just wipe it off which could cause lopsided coloration and such. A touch of clear lip gloss might make her feel special, though, and that’s not too bad.

As for who pays, I’d say whoever wants it done is the one who should foot the bill. If the bride wants the flower girl to have it done, the bride should cover the cost, whereas if the flower girl’s mother insists, then she’s the one who should pay. That’s a bit different than with bridesmaids, of course, but it keeps it from being too much of a financial burden on the flower girl’s parents unless they insist.
