Do you think the prince/princess fairytale wedding theme is just too cliche any more? All castles, white knights, and so forth - it really seems overdone. Granted, a couple could do their fairytale with more unique touches, really personalizing it, but it seems like that “classic” look isn’t as popular anymore. Any thoughts? |

Honestly, it kind of reminds me of an over-the-top wedding from the 1980s. The original idea does seem a bit dated. However, I do think you can add a few modern, classy touches to give the “fairytale” feel to a wedding without overdoing it. For example, the bride could wear a small hair comb that looks like a tiny tiara, have a horse and carriage on the wedding invites and maybe a fancy sculpted cake shaped like a castle. Anything more might get cheesy if it isn’t done right, but anything less wouldn’t convey that fairytale theme. With the right ideas and planning, you could definitely do a full-blown fairytale theme, but you might need a wedding planner or coordinator to really pull it off. |

I also think it can be well done if you don’t do the classic princess fairytail. For example, a mermaid fairytale might work well for a beach wedding - a sandcastle cake and details like that - or an Arabian Nights fairytale twist instead of a classic one. That would give you that “happily ever after” feeling without being as commonplace as the regular style. |

I agree that using touches of a princess or fairytale theme can be classy if you don’t go over the top. We had a more classic wedding theme, but one of the wedding invitation styles I loved was a white embossed invite with a carriage and the words “dreams do come true” on it. I think alluding to a fairy tale theme in a subtle way can add to the wedding without being too juvenile. |
