What did you do for wedding favors? Did you skip them all together? How many did you plan on? Did they go over well?

At our wedding, I really wanted a cute favor but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I also the favor to be somewhat practical instead of something that will get eaten or tossed a few days later.

I decided to make my own cookie cutter favors that said “Nate and Amy were cut out for each other. Thank you for attending our wedding!” and then added the date. We got married in January, so I wanted to find some snowflakes or Christmas bells (that could double as wedding bells) around Christmas, but I couldn’t find any that were priced right—most were over $3 or $4, which was just too much for the number of guests invited to our wedding.

I ended up buying two large buckets of brightly colored plastic animal shaped cookie cutters. I felt kind of dorky using those, and my mom was aghast at such a silly thing as our favors, but it turned out to be quite the hit—people dug through the favor bowls to find different animals for everyone in the family! We ended up with lots of leftovers, but for only $45/50 TOTAL for 200 people, I didn’t mind! wink

I think that’s a really clever idea, and it obviously turned out very well for you!

We wouldn’t have had wedding favors at all; personally, I feel that party favors are more a young birthday type of thing and less appropriate for a wedding, though of course it depends on what you have. It can be a really nice way to offer a small thanks to your guests right at the moment.

Some great favors I’ve seen are…
*White and dark chocolate hearts (a pair of them)
*Personalized candies with initials
*Small pumpkins with mums as tiny individual floral arrangements
*Lucky bamboo plants
*Homemade soap in appropriate scents (wedding theme)

I personally think that edible favors tend to work best, so there are fewer left behind by uninterested guests. That’s just me, though, and I’d love to know what other creative ideas are out there!

I love the cookie cutter idea, that is really cute!

For our wedding, I wanted to do something that was nice but relatively inexpensive. I purchased small, clear glass votive candle holders from a craft store (I think they were around three for a dollar), and small white votive candles to place in the center. (A tip for any one planning on doing this - the sticky stuff they sell to hold the candle in place in the bottom of the votive is worth it! Otherwise the candles get knocked around and can leave wax marks on the sides of the glass).

Since we wanted to include our wedding colors and make the candle a bit unique, with the help of my future mother-in-law and sister-in-law, we hot-glued thin strips of blue ribbon around the top of the votive with one blue and one white silk rosebud in the center and two small pearl bead strips hanging down under the rosebud. We wrapped each candle in a piece of tulle and tied with ribbon, then used a pretty cream colored paper to print off little labels that said our names and the wedding date.

While the favors were fairly simple, we were pleased at how they turned out - the looked nice and even with the craft supplies, I think each favor costs averaged out to be around a dollar fifty.

That’s true, sarah_9, edible favors are always popular because they seem to go to waste the least. Some delicious edible favors include…

*Cookies (bells, wedding cakes, etc.)
*Chocolates or truffles
*Mints or filled mint tins
*Miniature candy bars with personalized wrappers
*Chocolate candies in the wedding colors
*Bags of hot cocoa or coffee or tea
*Candied or chocolate coated nuts
*Chocolate roses
*Customized fortune cookies
*Monogrammed petit fours
*Mini bottles of wine or champagne

And there’re so many more to choose from, yum!

Thanks for sharing that wedding favor candle craft, rock, it sounds like it turned out just beautifully! It’s also a great kind of project that could be made up well in advance of the wedding so it doesn’t have to be rushed in the days before. I wouldn’t have thought about the sticky holder stuff for the bottom of the candle, but it makes sense to keep it from getting knocked about and making the sides of a clear holder dingy. You can also use a few drops of melted wax to do the same thing.

Hello! My fiance and consider truffles. As a matter of fact we had our restaurateur friend whip up some for us so that they come out personalized.

Truffles are a wonderful wedding favor! Edible favors are always popular, since it’s not some keepsake that may not work for every guest. Some great truffles I’ve seen are…

*One dark chocolate, one white chocolate - bride and groom
*Personalized fillings to match the season, such as a white chocolate lemon truffle for summer or a pumpkin spice truffle for fall; they can even match the wedding cake flavors
*Heart-shaped truffles
*Foil-wrapped truffles in the wedding colors or with personalized wrappers

Any other truffle ideas for wedding favors?
